The Green Schools Challenge is Dream in Green’s flagship program which is currently in its tenth year, serving K-12 students, teachers and staff members in Miami-Dade County, the fourth largest school district in the nation.
Through the Green Schools Challenge, students and staff are directly involved in designing and implementing energy and environmental solutions at their schools. Students come together as a Green Team to build a green foundation and complete fun monthly challenge activities related to energy efficiency and conservation, waste reduction and recycling, water conservation, alternative transportation, green buildings and green careers. The objective of the program is to help schools reduce their carbon footprint while promoting the long-term environmental sustainability of their community.
Our participation in the program will help us organize a more coherent approach towards improving our on-campus decision-making related to energy and material resources. The program calls on us to create solutions on campus for reducing our carbon footprint, conserving water and reducing waste through monthly challenges. The best part is that it calls on all members of the community to get involved.
